Year 1 Pine

Welcome to Pine Class  smiley

Our class teacher is Mrs Oates. We have two teaching assistants who help us throughout the week. They are called Mrs Baldry and Miss Wesley.

Other teachers supporting us this year are Mrs Horner who teaches us our Religious Education lessons and Mrs Francis who teaches us Music. They will both be teaching us on a Wednesday afternoon.

There will be two PE lessons during the week. These lessons will be on a Tuesday and a Thursday. Please ensure your child has a full PE kit on these days. If your child has pierced ears then please ensure that the earrings are removed before school and that long hair is also tied up on these days.

The learning topic for Autumn 2 will be 'Moon Zoom'.

During this half term we will learn all about famous astronauts and the first landing on the moon. We will also learn about Tim Peakes visit to the space station, the chronology of space history and how space travel might develop in the future.     The children will use their creative ideas to design their own forms of space travel!

We will be studying the artist Vincent Van Gogh. We will use his Starry Night painting as our inspiration to create texture and movement through the use of paint and colour.

We will also explore cooking in some simple Christmas themed baking sessions!

In Science, we will be looking at the weather and seasonal changes associated with Autumn and Winter. This will also include changes in day length and the movement of the sun throughout the day.

In our English lessons we are going to have some drama fun re-enacting a visit to space. We are going to learn some traditional nursery rhymes off by heart and explore reading simple poetry. We will then use these rhymes and poems to inspire us in writing our own space themed poetry.

Please take a look at the curriculum topic map and medium term plan for further information regarding all subject coverage.

Our first learning topic of the year will be 'Buried Treasure'.

This half term, we are going to be taking on the role of a pirate and plan to set sail across the world...

We will be writing lists of what we may need to survive at sea and will explore writing messages home to our families. We will also learn story telling skills and use our knowledge to write our very own pirate adventure.

We will be learning about the history of pirates and the work of The Royal Navy organisation. We are then going to be looking carefully at maps, locating The United Kingdom and the seven continents of the world as well as learning the names of the five oceans.

We will also study the artists Winslow Homer and William Turner, using their work as inspiration to create our very own seascape picture.
