Securing excellence

Learning through DT inspires children now and in the future to become innovators.  Kapow Primary scheme of work is used at Rougham as it is an inspiring, demanding and practical. DT is a subject that children can gain life skills through as they learn to innovate and solve problems. DT can involve trial and error and it is through this that children can appreciate that although they may not get things right the first time, with perseverance and courage to continue, they can meet their goals.

Harnessing connections

We aim to, wherever possible, link work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. The children are also given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present design technology, its uses and its effectiveness and are encouraged to become innovators and risk-takers.

Inclusivity

Our DT curriculum has one message to all our pupils at its core: everyone is a creator and innovator. At Rougham Primary, we believe that with support, perseverance and inspiration everyone can achieve.   To make design and technology lessons inclusive, teachers anticipate barriers to taking part and learning particular activities, lessons or a series of lessons may pose for pupils with particular SEN and/or disabilities. In our planning we consider ways of minimising or reducing those barriers so that all pupils can fully take part and learn.

Nurturing curiosity

Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Design and Technology encourages children to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team. At Rougham, we encourage children to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.

Engaging experiences

At Rougham, we intend that children should master Design and Technology to such an extent that they can go on to have careers within Design and Technology and make use of Design and Technology effectively in their everyday lives. Through trips and enrichment days we make links to DT.
