Primary Languages

The Linguamarque programme supports our school with a structured approach to Primary Languages Teaching.  The MFL policy is below and there is also a brief outline below to explain how each Key Stage accesses other languages.

In Willow class (Reception) the children experience different greetings from around the world and have the opportunity to practise these throughout the year.  The Children in Pine class (year 1) learn to greet each other in German and to count and name colours in this language too.  Spanish is taught in Ash class (year 2) through song, stories, and games with the additional support of the BBC Spanish language website.

In KS2 we focus on the French language and use the Rigolo scheme to support our teaching.  Maple class (year 6) organised a French Cafe to encourage French conversation throughout the school that day in the form of greetings, simple questioning (Qu'est-ce que tu veux? / Vous desirez?); simple responding (Je voudrais... un chocolat chaud / un pan an chocolat etc) and S'il vous plait and Merci of course!
